When a tank should be used as a trailer, it is installed on a cargo chassis with the required amount of axles (depending on the cargo capacity of the tank) and equipped with a coupling device, by means of which a tank trailer is attached to a towing truck. Some kinds of tank trailers have additional equipment. For example, tanks intended for oil products transportation are equipped with pumping stations, suction and discharge hoses, etc.

Tank trailers are convenient to operate, as they can be left at the sites where the transported cargo is consumed, while a towing truck can be used for other transport tasks.
